APARTMENT SAFETY FOR SINGLE WOMEN
65
A woman living alone may encounter many safety threats. When they live in an apartment complex those threats rise dramatically. In an apartment complex you are mixed together with many kinds of people from different walks of life. You live right next door to John and his girlfriend Amy, but do you really know them? They always have traffic coming in, and out of their home. Maybe their friends can't stand to be away from them or maybe they are supplementing their income, (if you know what I mean)! And the strange guy in the apartment across the hall, who always stares at you and smiles, then makes weird noises while you are washing in the laundry room. What's his story!
Thoughts such as those enter your mind when you are living alone in an
apartment. And it doesn't matter if that apartment complex is in an affluent
area of town. Predators come from" good upper middle class families"
too! Don't let the fancy cars and clothes lull you into a false sense of
security. And even your flat screen television can be cruel sometimes too! You
try to find a nice movie to help you relax, and fall asleep, but every other
show is about a woman being chased by some maniac. The setting is usually an
apartment complex, where the electricity just went out, and of course she is
alone! Try to get some sleep after that 2 hour movie!
Ladies, I hope that I have your attention! My point is not to scare you, but to
help you understand that Safety is your #1 priority when you are living alone
in your apartment. Apartment living can be very enjoyable! Depending on your needs,
and budget, you can have swimming pools, exercise rooms etc. Apartment living
can give you a chance to have amenities that you might not be able to afford
any other way. If you can afford an apartment with a door man it would help
greatly, but that is not an option for most people. But try to find an
apartment complex that has a security system in place which monitors every
entrance in your complex as well as the complete grounds. A security system
that allows you to see people on your television when someone rings your door
bell is a great feature.
